Photo: Dulce Pinzón
What is a hero? Dulce Pinzón asks this question and focuses on a very common, oftentimes overlooked hero—immigrants. He targets the Mexican immigrant communityin New York. He’s introduced an interesting juxtaposition of American and Mexican superhero characters and the many different jobs that Mexicans living in New York City perform. As far as their “hero” credibility, Mr. Pinzón states how much money they send back home to Mexico. I would argue that these people’s potential “hero factor” increases as they contribute in many other ways aside from sending money to their home country.
On one hand, it’s a politically-charged statement that forces one to think about the current situation of illegal immigration, stereotypes, etc. On the other hand, they’re great photographs by combining a surreal element in a concrete environment, which in my opinion could stand on its own.
I think this project is brilliant, really fantastic! Check out more photographs here.
